Race is Nearly Full but Slots Remain
The 2009 Buffalo Triathlon is nearly at full capacity
of 1500 racers, but late entry slots are available on a first-come basis.
Demand once again has been strong for this year's race, but race management
is striving to control growth so as to maintain the quality and friendly
feel of this "small town" event which is now the 2nd largest triathlon
in the state. Anyone still wishing to participate can still do so with
the purchase of a charity slot for $75. You will be still be guaranteed
a number for the distance/division of your choice, but in addition will
be contributing 100% of your race fee to various health and fitness
related causes in Wright County. The Buffalo Triathlon Committee is
committed to advancing health and fitness among as many individuals
in the county as possible, and appreciates any additional donations
towards that cause. Anyone can donate additional funds, which are tax
deductable, via www.active.com.

Buffalo Lake Ice Long Gone
While no one has been spotted swimming in Buffalo
Lake yet (other than one crazed triathlon director) there are lots of
ducks floating about and it wont be long before they are joined by some
really big yellow ones! Buffalo Triathlon is pleased to be sponsored
again this year by www.wetsuitrental.com
, and recommends racers without wetsuits considering renting one. Please
visit their website which has a wealth of information about wetsuits.
In summary: Increased speed, warmth, and safety are but a few of the
advantages of wearing a made-for-triathlon wetsuit in an open water
swim. Triathlon wetsuits are designed for maximum buoyancy and total
range of motion in the arms, but of course their biggest advantage is
that they keep you warm! Wesuits are not required for the short course,
with about 1/3 of racers going without. We will update this webpage
with expected water temps at the end of May.
New for 2009: 5-year age groups! Plus $18,000
in prizes!
Once again, Buffalo Triathlon is committed to
recognizing top elite athletes with a cash purse and providing top quality
race gear for age group winners. New this year, we will have 5 year
age categories, and will continue to award all age group winners with
prized valued at a minimum of $100 for first place, $50 for second,
and $25 for third. Once again we are pleased to be awarding all Olympic
age group course winners with a $175 pair of Newton shoes. Newton Running
will also be present at packet pickup for anyone wishing to demo shoes.
Our elite purse consists of $1000 for each 1st place male and female,
$500 each for 2nd place, and $250 each for 3rd place. Please note that
there is no separate division for pros, and that there is no elite division
for the Sprint course. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors,
the combined purse along with our giveway items for 2009 are now valued
at over $18,000.
